The City of Harlech is a new city, but the path of this city is up for decision with the 1984 municipal election. Both Emma Monique and Kaj Kejsaren are apathetic to the political election. Emma now runs a bustling private investigations company, and Kaj faces a disciplinary hearing for his past actions, but both are anxious for the future of the city nonetheless. They take out their anxieties as they separately investigate those in control of the city, hoping to learn who or what criminal organization aims to take control, or continue to control, the city in a position of absolute power and consolidate the criminal activities of the city for their own doing. To aid their efforts, they come to reflect on the past again, where a power struggle ensued fifteen years ago for control of the city, but now continues to struggle for control of the Greater Harlech region. This final battle for control pushes both Emma and Kaj to their limits, transforming each of them for better or for worse, as they action their own plans in opposition to the hostile powers that lurk.

Emma Monique: Problem-Solver – Book 1 – The Bunco Squad
Emma Monique is a 30-year-old private investigator in Harlech, a metropolitan city in the Pacific Northwest, who runs her own business investigating small time cases. When Emma is met with a mysterious client who offers a substantial return for the recovery of computer data that was lost to a hacker, her efforts to return this data to her client has her run in to an old friend from high school, 30-year-old Kaj Kejsaren, a patrol officer with the Harlech Police Department, Jarsdel Division, who likewise has been on the hunt for answers to the mysterious circumstances of the death of a con artist. The con artist in question, both Emma and Kaj were familiar with from their teenage years when the two had likewise come together to solve two separate mysteries, a thief and a bunco con respectively, both of which tied to the same fairground that ran a larger scheme. Emma and Kaj must then decide whether the events in the past correlate to the present, and whether they should team up once more to solve the mystery and wider scam ahead.
